When Being At Home, Truly Never Felt Better:

A Daughter’s Quest for Compassionate Care

Ms. Blancho Davidson

HouseCalls Home Care NHTD Patient

Every journey has its ups and downs, but it’s the support we receive along the way that truly shapes our path. At HouseCalls Home Care it is our earnest attempt to help you embrace the golden years, forge new relationships, and welcome happiness into your life!

“Recently, we had the privilege of sitting down with the daughter, Ms. Yvette Morgan, of one of our program participants, to hear her incredible story,”

Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s can be a daunting task, especially when it involves navigating the complexities of finding the right caregivers. For Yvette, ensuring that her mother, Ms. Blancho Davidson, received consistent and compassionate care was a top priority.

The Challenge:

Initially, Blancho was in a nursing home, but Yvette wanted to bring her home to provide her with a more personalized and comfortable environment. However, transitioning her mother out of the nursing home was not an easy feat. The challenge lay in securing 24-hour care that could cater to her 83-year-old mother’s specific needs, including dealing with dementia.

“At this stage, what I was asking for was to have mature individuals who were familiar with dealing with dementia patients, and also if I could just have four people within the home instead of a revolving door with a constant rotation of new faces.”

Yvette’s first attempt with another agency left her feeling frustrated and unheard. The inconsistency in caregivers and the lack of attention to her mother’s needs added more stress to an already tricky situation.

“I’ve dealt with the nightmare of having 12 people overall in my mother’s home from the former agency.”

“I didn’t want the repetition of that because it’s exhausting and annoying! My mother was aggravated and agitated due to the unfamiliar faces and it’s just a constant stress on me trying to manage all these people while working a full-time job.”

Determined to find a better solution, Yvette discovered HouseCalls Home Care after an online search. What stood out to her was the immediate response from Ms. Deborah Forbes and Ms. Laura Caicedo, the EVP and Bronx Office Manager, who took the time to listen to Yvette’s concerns. Yvette was impressed by the level of attention and care we provided for her requirements, from allowing her to meet and interview potential caregivers to ensuring that her mother would not experience the confusion of unfamiliar faces.

“Ms. Forbes really listened to what I needed; she not just listened with her ears, but she listened with her heart,” Yvette explains. “She took the time to understand my concerns and what I was looking for in a caregiver. It was such a relief to finally feel heard!”

The Transition:

The transition to HouseCalls Home Care was smooth and efficient, a stark contrast to her previous experience. We are an agency that listens and genuinely cares about both the patient and the caregiver, providing not just care but also peace of mind and a renewed sense of hope.

“Since the start of the homecare service on Sunday, July 21, 2024, my stress level has been greatly reduced.”

The team at HouseCalls Home Care has turned her home into a sanctuary where her mother can feel safe, cared for, and understood. We’ve provided physical care and brought emotional support and stability to Blanch’s life. The consistency of having the same dedicated aides has allowed Blanch to build trust and familiarity, which is crucial for someone dealing with Alzheimer’s.

The Impact:

Blancho’s life has profoundly changed since joining the HouseCalls Home Care NHTD program. Our personalized support and services have empowered her to live a fuller, more independent life. She no longer feels alone in her journey but uplifted and surrounded by a community that genuinely cares.

“She’s not just there existing now, she’s actually interacting….

You can even see a difference in her demeanor and how she relates to them because she knows that she has someone there who understands her, who speaks her language, who’s able to prepare the food in the way that she likes. “

The Gratitude:

Yvette’s words of gratitude left us deeply moved. It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do—to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

“Before it was a nightmare! Now it’s like a dream that’s finally been realized because now, as I stated, I am feeling much less stressed than I was before! I can even laugh now because I feel so good and I’m so thankful that Miss Forbes and her team listened and really provided the people that I needed to help me.”

A Message to Others:

To anyone considering the HouseCalls Home Care NHTD program, Yvette has a heartfelt message:

“I would say that if you’re looking for caretakers for your parents, grandparents, whomever it may be, try to find an agency that cares about what you have to say as the caregiver. Try to find an agency that’s actually listening to the request that you’re making. The previous agency cared more about money and the number of cases they could obtain than caring about the patient and the caregiver.”

“This agency, HouseCalls, really listened and that’s what I appreciated. They listened and got it right! They took what I stated to heart and they made an impact and continue to make an impact in my mom’s life.”

“It is quite a difference, and a major improvement from what it was before…”

At HouseCalls Home Care, we’re committed to helping you find the care and support you deserve. Yvette’s journey is a testament to the power of compassion, community, and the right resources. If you or someone you know is facing similar challenges, we encourage you to explore our NHTD program. Together, we will make a difference!
